CBI April 2022

Amy and Ben Wright, keynote speakers at this year’s IHRSA Convention & Trade Show, have dedicated their lives to promoting diversity and inclusivity with their chain of Bitty & Beau’s Coffee Shops. In this interview, Amy discusses what motivated them to create their unique business, and how the fitness industry can to do more to open doors to populations who are often underserved by commercial gyms.

“If every gym in America would hire somebody with a disability to be in the front of their business, to welcome members to the club, to have an interaction—it’s a really positive reset to a person’s day.”

Welcome

  • We're Just Getting Started: Once again, the federal government failed to provide financial assistance to the fitness industry after the U.S. House stripped pandemic-related funds from the $1.5 trillion omnibus spending bill. That means the GYMS Act and any equivalent legislation didn’t make the final cut. This is hardly the end. In fact, the work is just beginning, with the action taking place on multiple fronts. Liz Clark and the NHFA are rolling up their sleeves and getting back to work. With their determined efforts and your support, they’ll make sure the industry never gets left behind again.
