[April 9, 2024] The Health & Fitness Association proudly announces its inaugural Fly-In and Advocacy Summit, scheduled for May 7-8, 2024, in Washington, D.C. As the sole industry advocate in the nation's capital, this historic event marks the first opportunity for health and fitness industry stakeholders to convene on Capitol Hill under the association's new identity, reaffirming our commitment to championing the sector's interests at the highest levels of government.

"This Fly-In and Advocacy Summit is not only a landmark event for our association but also for the entire health and fitness industry," said Health & Fitness Association President & CEO Liz Clark. "As we step into this new era, it's imperative that we make our collective, unified voice heard on Capitol Hill. This event provides a crucial platform for industry leaders to engage directly with lawmakers and advocate for policies that support the growth and vitality of our sector."

Attendees will play a pivotal role in communicating that physical activity is not only beneficial for mental and physical health but also for the economic health of the nation. Throughout the event, the association will unveil crucial economic impact data showcasing the profound contributions of the health and fitness industry to the U.S. economy, including the total number of fitness facilities across American communities, the total number of Americans employed by the industry, the total amount of wages paid, and the direct benefit to the U.S. economy in federal and state taxes.

The two-day event will feature a dynamic agenda designed to empower attendees to educate lawmakers on the mental and physical health benefits of physical activity, establish and strengthen relationships with members of Congress and their staff, and advance the reputation of the health and fitness industry.

In addition to sharing the economic impact of the industry, attendees will help advance key U.S. policy priorities including gaining support of the PHIT Act to expand HSA and FSA eligibility for physical activity and youth sports expenses, seeking national liability protections to ensure the use of automated external defibrillators (AEDs), and sharing how the industry is poised to support recruitment and retention efforts of the U.S. armed forces.

“Our goals are aligned with our global advocacy pillars, dedicated to championing initiatives that unify our industry's voice, enhance consumer access to wellness opportunities, and foster a business-friendly environment conducive to innovation and growth," remarked Mike Goscinski, Vice President of Government Affairs for the Health & Fitness Association.

“Through collaborative efforts and strategic advocacy, we will position the health and fitness sector as a powerful force for positive change, promoting preventive health benefits, equitable access, and economic prosperity."

Coinciding with National Physical Activity Month, recognized by a large coalition of industry groups each May, the event is sponsored by ABC Fitness, ALTA Technology Group, ClubConnect, Daxko, DX Factor, EGYM, FitOn Health, Gympass is now wellhub, Junk Brands, Matrix Fitness, Myzone, NASM / AFAA, Precor, ROR Partners, Studio Grow, Technogym, Tivity Health, and WellnessSpace Brands (formerly HydroMassage).
