  • There are 38,477 health clubs in the U.S. (as listed in the Yellow Pages on January 1, 2016; includes YMCAs, community centers, studios, etc.)
  • 60.9 million Americans belonged to at least one of the 38,477 health clubs nationwide.
  • 70.2 million Americans were health club consumers in 2017.
  • Health club/gym/studio visits totaled 5.9 billion in 2017.
  • On average, IHRSA clubs reported keeping over 7 out of 10 members in 2016.
  • Global industry revenues totaled $87.2 billion worldwide, and more than 200,000 clubs served some 174 million members in 2017.
