Attention, Old People!

By Mia Coen

I thought that headline might get your attention.
But you’re only as old as you feel, you know. If you feel a heck of a lot younger than you actually are - or if you want to feel a heck of a lot younger than you actually are - then check out any 24 Hour Fitness facility next week.
24 Hour Fitness, which is aligned with the International Council on Active Aging (ICAA), proudly supports Active Aging Week, an annual initiative sponsored by ICAA, whose goal is improving the quality of life for older adults. During the week of September 25 through October 1, 2011, 24 Hour Fitness clubs nationwide will host free workouts for anyone aged 50 or older.
Age is but a number…and, if you exceed 50, consider yourself lucky! Perks galore! Plus, this would be a great time to recruit some friends. You know - the ones who complain about those aches and pains, but  don’t get off their butts to stretch and move around a bit. Make a night of it. Get out, have some fun, get in a nice workout - for free!
Plus, if you’re interested in revamping your fitness routine or need support getting started from scratch, 24 Hour Fitness offers some great ideas. They have Exercise Guidelines and Steps for Success, which include recommendations on exercises, activities, duration of workouts, and workout intensity that are appropriate for your age and fitness level. And they offer a number of group-exercise programs, such as Silver&Fit, Silver Sneakers, and Zumba Gold, that are specifically designed for older adults.
And trust me:

By “older,” I mean wiser, more worldly, and respectable!
