Legendary tennis coach Nick Bollettieri visits Boston-area club

Nick Bollettieri, with MAC Academy players Nuno Macedo of Newton and Sinan Zerbe of Cambridge.There is no doubt members at Manchester Athletic Club can get a lot from Nick Bollettieri's experience and knowledge.

That is why he is invited every year to the Massachusetts North Shore facility to talk to members, give lessons, and make appearances and pose for numerous photos.

"This marks Nick's eleventh year affiliated with Manchester Athletic Club's MAC Tennis Academy," said Todd Carpenter, director of Tennis at Manchester Athletic Club. "Our members are fortunate to have this unique opportunity to get tips and strategy from one of tennis's most famous and celebrated coaches." 

Nick Bollettieri, legendary tennis coach, with Sasha Wood, an up-and-comer from Topsfield, at the Manchester Athletic Club,There was an extra buzz around the club this summer as it now plays host to the Boston Lobsters of the World Team Tennis League.

Bollettieri visits Massachusetts tennis academy

Famed tennis coach Nick Bollettieri, fourth from left, with some of the players at the Manchester Athletic Club Tennis Academy.It is not uncommon to see big names in tennis circles walk through the door at Manchester Athletic Club Tennis Academy, from top juniors to pros to coaches.

Last week the club, located in Manchester-by-the-Sea, Mass., saw legendary coach Nick Bollettieri for his annual visit. The coach to such superstars as Andre Agassi and Maria Sharapova has been coming north for 10 years. While at the club he gave private lessons, conducted group drills and gave motivational speeches to adult players, parents and the Academy’s junior players.

“Nick is a prime example of the virtues and rewards of discipline, commitment and hard work,” said Todd Carpenter, director of Tennis at Manchester Athletic Club, in a press release. “He has spoken all over the world about how to become and stay number one. Invaluable lessons for our program and for the next generation of tennis players.”  

Bollettieri has a book coming out next month on his life, including his teaching and what he has learned, on and off the court.
