More than 300 at Meet the Top event

IHRSA strategic media partner Hubert Horn, left, organizer of Meet the Top, with IHRSA partners in the Middle East Tarryn Hoffmann and Yves Preissler.The 14th Annual Meet the Top saw 309 attendees from Germany, Austria, Switzerland, Luxembourg, Italy, Kuwait, UAE and Netherlands - location of IHRSA´s next European Congress, Oct. 16-19, in Amsterdam - in attendance last week. The event is the primary business-to-business networking event for the German market. 

IHRSA´s Hans Muench, director of Europe, gave the opening address.

A new IHRSA associate member, MedxSys, which produce a versatile pulley-based tower suitable for a variety of exercises and sport-specific training, was in attendance. 

IHRSA partner Tarryn Hoffmann from Abu Dhabi was one of a dozen foreign participants to this event, which continues to grow in popularity.



IHRSA in Norway discussing Convention & Trade Show

Pavi Gym Life Fitness, Qi Craft (distributor of Technogym in the Nordic and Baltic countries), Queenax and Exeline were among the companies at the event.

Fourteen on 14 in CBI looks at the upcoming year

This year for its look on the industry as the new year is upon us, CBI magazine talks to 14 leaders who will have an impact on the upcoming IHRSA's 33rd Annual International & Trade Show, March 12-15, in San Diego.

Industry authorities like Bill McBride and Debra Siena, and IHRSA's Hans Muench and John Holsinger are among the first seven in the January edition of the magazine, covering subjects like Consumer Confidence and Mindset, Impact of Women's Leadership, and New Revenue Streams. The final seven will be in February.

Inaugural United Arab Emirates event generates excitement in region

Among those at the first United Arab Emirates event were, from left, Kevin Texeira, owner of host Warehouse Gym; Yves Preissler, of Multi Works, IHRSA partner; Hans Muench, director, IHRSA Europe; and Tarryn Hoffman of Multi Works.IHRSA conducted its first event in the United Arab Emirates, one of the fastest growing areas for health and fitness in the world. IHRSA’s partner in the area, Multi Works, organized the event, which was held six-month-old at Warehouse Gym. 

"This meeting is an essential tool to grow the health, leisure and wellbeing industry in the region, as well as raise awareness and focus towards the Gulf as a trend-setter, but also a region with high health related problems., said Multi Works´ Yves Presisler. “It’s always to soon to quit - therefore we will continue to raise the bar with IHRSA as our partner."

There were networking events and a talk by Technogym’s Ruggero Ottogalli, who discussed the three phases of the market development in the region: clubs were mostly in hotels until around 2005; Fitness First and Landmark leads the explosive growth and development; now focusing on more education and quality focus (with regulations).

Talise Fitness, located in the famous Al Jumeirah Hotel in Dubai, has offered to host the next event. Here, in front of the high altitude training room, is Tarryn Hoffmann, of IHRSA partner Multi Works, and Matthew Graham, center, club manager, with Hans Muench.IHRSA membership by clubs in the region is growing rapidly, said IHRSA Europe Director Hans Muench.

There are plans to hold quarterly meetings in the region.


IHRSA partners with Middle Eastern organization

Hans MuenchIn an effort to strengthen its presence in the Middle East, IHRSA has recently partnered with Multi Works, which is based in Kuwait and the United Arab Emirates.

The strategic partnership will give IHRSA local expertise in the Middle East which hopes to grow the fitness sector. To do that Multi Works plans to attend more seminars and events, including the 33rd Annual IHRSA International Convention & Trade Show and European Congress, among other industry events.

“IHRSA is pleased to work with a strong partner in one of the fastest growing markets," said Hans Muench, director of IHRSA Europe. "We share best practices, facilitate networking, and listen and learn from other leaders in our industry who are contributing to the business that we are so passionate about.”


Sweden's Dagborn recognized for 25 years in fitness industry

Hans Muench, left, IHRSA director of Europe, and Per Anders Dagborn.During last month's Fitness Festival in Gothenburg, Sweden, Per Anders Dagborn was recognized for his 25 years working with IHRSA. 

Now the owner of Gym & Sim in Vallentuna, Sweden, Dagborn is an innovator and pioneer in Europe and worldwide. He was the first to bring Step to Sweden and he wrote a detailed paper on retention that was ahead of its time.

“I remember P-A from the first European Club Leaders Conferences in the 1990s,” said Hans Muench, IHRSA´s director of Europe. “P-A was inspiring and thoughtful and a great gift to our industry.”


Swedish Fitness Festival attracts more than 600

Ove RytterOve Rytter, of Strong Events, the organizer of the Swedish Fitness Festival 2013 in Gothenburg, opened the event on Nov. 30. IHRSA Director of Europe Hans Muench also presented.

About 600 attendees are expected for the convention, and around 20,000 for the trade show.

The event, which started in 1986, features nutrition, fitness and training equipment, wellbeing and beauty, healthcare and rehabilitation, music and fashion.

SIBEC is a great chance to meet one-on-one

300 take part in AGAP Conference in Portugal

IHRSA partner AGAP held its AGAP Conference just outside of Lisbon last month.

More than 300 participants took part in presentations on various topics, starting with Exercise is Medicine, over two days. Carla Dias, who will speak at IHRSA's European Congress next week, talked about service. There was also a panel discussion led by Antonio Sacavan which included Nic Coutts.

There was a sponsor showcase with 16 companies, including Technogym, Precor, Nutrisport and Gerflor.
