Sheahan: take small chances at first; don't have to do it alone

Peter Sheahan, the final general session speaker at the IHRSA Annual International Convention & Trade Show, said prior to coming to Las Vegas for his speech he did a lot of homework on the health and fitness club industry. He said for his job he looks at industries that go through change and from what he can surmise is that this industry is currently going through it. 

During his hour talk he described, Five Strategies to go From WHY to HOW, sponsored by MYZONE. He explained that following these tips can help club owners get ahead of the curve.

Conley: keep both customers and employees happy

Chip Conley knows the importance of keeping the customer happy. 

The founder of Joie de Vivre - California’s largest independent hotel company and America’s second largest boutique hotelier - had his ups and downs in the 2000s. With all of his hotels at that time in San Francisco area, in 2001 the economy in that area endured one of the biggest economic drops anywhere in the United States since World War II. 

Conley was the third general session speaker at the 32nd Annual International Convention & Trade Show. His, on Thursday, was sponsored by Matrix.

Jacobs: be part of the solution

Those who don’t know the story of Bert Jacobs and his company, Life if good, might not see how it relates to the fitness industry. 

After his general session talk on Tuesday at the IHRSA 32nd Annual International Convention & Trade Show, sponsored by SPRI, the connection is almost a no-brainer.

“Your organization is not about innovations of products,” said Jacobs, who insisted he is not anti-technology. “What it is about is bettering someone’s life. Both my business and yours is about that.”
