Twitter CEO’s Fitness Software Eyes December Launch Date
Former Twitter CEO Dick Costolo’s fitness software startup, Chrous, is working toward a December launch. The company, which is run by an eight-person team and has an initial investment of $8 million, is aiming “aims to take the emerging phenomenon of group fitness, such as SoulCycle or CrossFit or countless other boutique models, and bring it to scale, like a tech company would,” Vanity Fair reports. “Its software platform, which consumers will be able to access with a subscription fee, will link up athletes who share common fitness goals, like training for a marathon, increasing their functional strength, or more ephemeral health resolutions, like sleeping better. The logic that undergirds Chorus, much like Weight Watchers or A.A., is that people who are serious about a goal are better served through positive peer pressure.”

Nick Offerman Discusses Making ‘The History of Exercise’ Video
Actor/comedian Nick Offerman penned a recent Wall Street Journal article, “A Week in the Life of Nick Offerman,” where he shared some a glimpse into the behind-the-scenes of filming the President’s Council “History of Exercise” video, which IHRSA helped to produce. “We’re in Washington to shoot a comedy video with none other than Michelle Obama,” he wrote. “Oh, and it requires a procession of period exercise outfits, including Olivia Newton-John’s exact get-up from her 1981 “Let’s Get Physical” video. On me. I meet the first lady for the first time in that very leotard and legwarmers. She appears to Megan and myself like a superhero, in black spandex workout gear. We are all giggling like schoolchildren at the fun we’re having in support of Let’s Move!, her signature exercise initiative. It’s all a little surreal; Megan and I feel like a couple of very lucky kids to share some of the first lady’s valuable time and Gatorade.”

IHRSA Calls for Congress to ‘Stop Sitting Around’

"Sitting. Sitting while watching TV. Sitting while at the computer. Sitting while at the drive-through. These are all things Americans do-a lot,” writes Helen Durkin, IHRSA’s executive vice president of public policy, in her op-ed directed to Congress that appeared in this morning’s edition of Morning Consult. "But sitting is costly. Studies show that all this sitting costs governments, societies, and ourselves." Read our blog post on today’s Morning Consult op-ed.
