Spanish chain Fitness19 opens first Portugal location

José Luis GaytánFitness19, a Spanish fitness franchiser of high-volume/low-priced gyms, has opened its first location in neighboring Portugal, kicking off the expansion plans it initiated at the end of 2013.

Located in Vila Nova de Gaia, Oporto, the 21,500- square-foot club features functional training zones, boxing and free weight areas, and a range of half-hour fitness classes.

Fitness19 is opening in Portugal at an opportune moment, as inflation and tax increases have made it difficult for many residents to afford the average club membership fee of $45 a month. At approximately $32 a month, the new Fitness19 club offers an affordable, accessible, and high-quality option for those who value an active lifestyle.

José Luis Gaytán, the operations and expansion director of Fitness19, con- tends that focusing on the fitness activities and services that people use and value - as opposed to extras such as cafés and spas - maximizes both member satisfaction and franchise profitability.
