Childhood obesity rates dropping in some cities

Any decrease in child obesity rates is good. So the numbers coming in from recent studies and reports are more than encouraging.

According to a Robert Wood Johnson Foundation report, New York saw a 5.5% decline in the childhood obesity rates between 2007 and 2011. Other major cities also saw decreases: Philadelphia (5%) and Los Angeles (3%).

story in The Hill's Healthwatch blog notes that changes in schools' nutrition policies are a major reason. IHRSA's Helen Durkin, executive vice president of Public Policy, however, notes in a Letter to the Editor (halfway down) that exercise and lifestyle contribute to the decreases.
