Guides to Business Greatness

One of IHRSA’s primary roles as an industry association is to compile original research and produce authoritative publications that are designed to help club operators do a better job of acquiring, understanding, serving, and retaining members. This year, IHRSA has created several valuable resources that specifically address the following important goals. 

Understand your prospects and current members:

Each quarter, IHRSA surveys thousands of consumers, and, at the beginning of each calendar year, it also participates in the Physical Activity Council survey.

By making use of The IHRSA Trend Report, which is published quarterly and is free to IHRSA members, you’ll learn much about consumers’ attitudes towards the fitness industry, in general, and health clubs, specifically, and obtain insights about how best to market your services.

Another publication, The IHRSA Health Club Consumer Report: 2012 Health Club Activity, Usage, Trends & Analysis, analyzes consumer trends and explains how to apply

them profitably to your business. This year’s report places a special emphasis on multi-year trends.

Grow your membership:

It’s essential that you provide your sales managers and staff with sophisticated, ongoing sales and marketing instruction. IHRSA Webinars provide valuable, cost-effective training—when you need it, wherever you are, and for as many people as you like. Recent popular titles in the sales and marketing curriculum have included Leading Your Sales Team to Excellence and Innovative Marketing to Grow Your Membership

Serve and retain your members:

To help you achieve these two critical objectives, the association publishes The IHRSA Member Retention Report in conjunction with The Retention People, a leading U.K.-based research organization. Recent issues of this quarterly report have explained how to measure member retention, and examined the impact of e-mail on club efforts.

Compare your club to the competition:

IHRSA’s annual Profiles of Success is a comprehensive guide to the state of the health and fitness industry. The 2012 edition provides detailed information on club benchmarks and other aspects of performance, including membership growth and traffic, facility reinvestment, expense management, and more.

This comprehensive report is free to clubs that participate in IHRSA’s annual Industry Data Survey.

Staff for success:

In order to remain viable, vital, and profitable, your club, of course, needs to have the right people on board. The Future Is Bright: U.S. Health Club Employment Outlook provides valuable information about the industry’s workforce, and describes how other clubs are addressing the need for well-educated and experienced labor.
