Irene Rebound

Hello, CBI Readers,

I'm sure many of you are still grappling with the aftermath of Hurricane Irene. The East Coast was pummeled. We're currently witnessing widespread damage due to torrential wind and rain, resulting in massive power outages and deadly flash floods.

At CBI’s editorial office just south of Boston, we’ve been without power for four days. Last night, we got the word that electricity was restored. Needless to say, the happy dances ensued.

But the most important thing for us, I’m happy to report, is that no one was hurt. In fact, the towns came together to help ensure the safety and comfort of their residents in a way I’ve never witnessed.

Neighbors came out to help remove debris, people with electricity welcomed friends and family into their homes, and others offered food and services to those in need…it reminded me of what I experience, on a daily basis, working in this industry.

We’re in the business of helping people, especially when it’s needed. There’s always someone there to answer questions, or help to achieve a specific goal—and the resources are unlimited in this vast network of professionals. In a way, I feel like we’re all good neighbors.

So, I have to ask—Are you alright? How did Irene affect you? Did you do anything special to prepare? What can we do to help?

Wishing everybody well,

CBI Staff
