Worthington is the owner and president of the Newtown Athletic Club (NAC) in Newtown, PA.

“I am honored to have been appointed by President Trump to serve on the President's Council on Sports, Fitness & Nutrition and to work with Secretary Alex Azar of the Department of Health and Human Services to develop a national strategy to expand participation in youth sports, encourage regular physical activity, and promote good nutrition for all Americans. These initiatives align perfectly with my 40-year career in the fitness industry and my upcoming chairmanship of IHRSA, which begins on July 1,” said Worthington of being selected for this high honor.

The President’s Council on Sports, Fitness & Nutrition was formed in 1965, and since then, has worked to create and promote programs that allow Americans to adopt healthy lifestyles that stress the importance of regular physical activity and a balanced diet. IHRSA is grateful to continue the partnership with the PCSFN in fighting the physical inactivity crisis. Our organizations have joined forces on a number of initiatives—including the #0to60 campaign, the President’s Active Lifestyle Challenges, and National Physical Fitness & Sports month, to name a few—that aim to ensure a healthier future for this generation and for many to come.

“On behalf of IHRSA, I’d like to wish Jim a great amount of success in his new role,” said Joe Moore, IHRSA president and CEO. “His insurmountable dedication to increasing the physically active population speaks to his genuine desire to help every individual who is committed to making positive lifestyle changes. We’d like to recognize and congratulate him on all of his accomplishments, and we are eager to follow and support the incredible work he will do as part of the President’s Council on Sports, Fitness & Nutrition.”

“Jim has played a major role in helping IHRSA support policies that would allow more people to engage with the proven benefits of regular exercise,” said Helen Durkin, IHRSA’s executive vice president of public policy. “Working with the President’s Council on Sports, Fitness & Nutrition will only amplify the positive effects that his voice and passion will have on the continued growth of our industry."
