The Movement to #PassPHIT

A major focus at IHRSA 2017 was a ‘virtual fly-in’ to support PHIT, legislation that would make access to physical activity more affordable for U.S. taxpayers. If passed, the Personal Health Investment Today (PHIT) Act, the fitness industry’s top legislative priority, would save Americans 20-30% on annual fitness expenses by allowing the use of pre-tax savings accounts to pay for qualified fitness expenses, including health club memberships.

During IHRSA 2017, the Virtual #PassPHIT Fly-in encouraged attendees to contact their member of Congress to support the bill. Due to the combined efforts of industry professionals in attendance:

  • The #PassPHIT Campaign made 2.4 million impressions via social media.

  • 618 email messages, tweets, and Facebook posts were sent to over 300 members of Congress. These messages contributed to the larger movement to pass this legislation. As of March 23, IHRSA members have sent 3,196 messages (3,116 emails) to members of Congress from about 969 unique senders, asking for passage of PHIT.

  • Attendees participated in a Facebook Live broadcast demonstrating the importance of what PHIT would mean for this industry and American health club consumers. The livestream reached 4,469 people and has been viewed more than 1.4K times to date.

Education Highlights

Each day of the four-day event was highlighted by an inspiring keynote presentation. To kick off IHRSA 2017, Seth Mattison spoke about the interaction of workplace trends, generational dynamics, and leadership strategies in his Wednesday morning keynote: The Relationship Revolution: Building Better Connections in the Digital Age, sponsored by MYZONE.

On Thursday morning, after the #PassPHIT Rally, Martin Lindstrom, author, change agent, and brand futurist, presented: Forget Big Data, Small Data Defines the Future, sponsored by Technogym SpA. His presentation as well as the #PassPHIT rally was broadcast via Facebook Live.

On Friday, attendees were prompted to think out of the box by entrepreneur Johnny ‘Cupcakes’ Earle, founder of the Johnny Cupcakes t-shirt brand. His session on Viral Business: Inspiring Customer Loyalty was sponsored by Matrix Fitness.

And on the final day of the Convention, Soraya Darabi, co-founder of Zady, gave attendees unique insight into how they could successfully create their own customized engagement plan that would keep members coming back for more. Her presentation: Creating & Maintaining Engagement was sponsored by Daxko / CSI Software.

Additional Convention highlights included:

In addition to the various receptions and networking events, keynotes, and leadership events, more than 150 educational, exercise, and networking sessions were offered, many simultaneously translated into Chinese (sponsored by ChinaFit), French, Japanese, Portuguese, Russian, and Spanish.

The Outstanding Community Service Award was presented to FITNESS SF of Corte Madera, California; The Julie Main Scholarship was presented to Ellen Latham, MS, co-founder and partner of Orangetheory Fitness; and the The Associate Member of the Year was presented to TRX. “We are thrilled with the response we have received from those volunteering to serve and share their immense knowledge,” said Joe Moore, IHRSA’s president and CEO.

In addition to Ingerslev, IHRSA board members attending the initial meeting included incoming Board Chair Derek Gallup of New Evolution Ventures, Missy Moss of Nike Fitness Centers, Ray O’Connor of Wisconsin Athletic Clubs, as well as IHRSA Board-elect members Bryan O'Rourke of Gold’s Gym Houston and Integerus, and Carrie Kepple of Les Mills, New Zealand. SportsArt previews ECO-POWR Treadmill at IHRSA Show 2017

The leader in sustainable fitness equipment reveals an innovative, self-powered treadmill that feeds energy back into the grid

Los Angeles, CASportsArt, announces the newest piece of cardio equipment to its ECO-POWR line, the ECO-POWR Treadmill. SportsArt’s ECO-POWR equipment turns human energy into utility grade electricity through a micro-inverter similar to the technology found in solar panels and wind turbines. When plugged into a power outlet, a single workout can produce up to 200 watts per hour per unit of electricity.

The new self-powered, ECO-POWR treadmill is made of 77 percent recycled materials and features a sleek design where form meets function to embrace its purpose. Unlike other self-powered treadmills on the market, the ECO-POWR treadmill generates a net energy output, utility grade ready, to be fed back into the grid.

“We are constantly finding ways to embed sustainability into our products. Most importantly we strive to do it in a way that is seamless from an operator’s perspective. Recently, our ECO-POWR technology has helped create the first sustainable spinning studio in the country, in Sacramento, CA. Our value proposition is based on the strong differentiation we provide to operators targeting millennials, the largest fitness market demographic, said Ivo Grossi, Vice President for SportsArt. “When we preview new products like the ECO-POWR treadmill to a line of sustainable equipment that is already taking the industry by surprise, we are blazing a new trail that is destined to go mainstream.”

SportsArt is also offering a Green Circle Certification to customers who utilize the ECO-POWR line. The certification provides companies a baseline to measure and track the energy consumed by the gym and the energy savings generated by the ECO-POWR machines.

About SportsArt — For over 38 years, SportsArt has been an industry innovator in the design and manufacture of high quality cardiovascular and strength equipment for commercial, medical and residential use. They retain control over every aspect of the design and manufacturing process to ensure proper integration, maximum performance and longer product life. TAG Digital Marketing’s Bill Konstand Named to Forbes Agency Council

ORLANDO, FLORIDA (PRWEB) MARCH 09, 2017 - Forbes magazine recently named TAG Digital Marketing (TAG) president, Bill Konstand, to the Forbes Agency Council.

An invitation-only association for public relations, marketing, and advertising agency executives, the Forbes Agency Council recognizes proven leaders in their respective industries. Members are invited to submit expert commentary and bylines based on their expertise, which is then published by Forbes to offer guidance to organizations and emerging businesses who are growing their brands.

“I am honored that Forbes has selected me to join this group of thought leaders,” says Konstand. “I look forward to serving as a resource for developing B2B brands and anticipate sharing best practices within the greater Forbes community.”

Members of the Forbes Agency Council must be recognized leaders in their industry with a successful, high-growth business and considered mentors within the community. Konstand received the invitation for introducing innovative digital marketing strategies into the B2B market -- and for working closely with clients to integrate digital and social media concepts into their core marketing initiatives.

Strategies that Konstand introduced, such as Social Cloud review generation tools and the “Check-In and Win a Dream Vacation” social media contests, are now emulated by industries that TAG serves.

“It’s my hope that I can use this platform to share my knowledge and experience with others in the marketing industry,” Konstand states. “I want to be a resource for my clients as well as for other marketers. Together, we can face the challenges of emerging digital trends and innovate new and exciting marketing strategies.”

Konstand has offered consulting and digital marketing services to Fortune 500 brands and thousands of small businesses since 1999; in 2007, he realized that the greatest transformation in communication was about to take place. A pioneer and leader in what he has termed “the greatest shift in the history of marketing,” Konstand has been instrumental in helping small- and medium-sized businesses move from traditional marketing sources -- like print, television, and radio -- to exclusively digital.

“Businesses like gyms, dentists, and home care offices did not rely on the internet for any new revenues before 2005,” he explains, “but today, digital and mobile platforms lead over 90% of consumers to find these businesses online.”

Under his leadership, TAG offers services such as website development, conversion optimization, mobile optimization, search engine marketing (SEO, SEM, and analytics), pay-per-click and paid social advertising, social media management and marketing, reputation management, and online directory marketing.
