Joe Moore is President and CEO of the International Health, Racquet & Sportsclub Association (IHRSA). Moore became President & CEO of IHRSA on July 1, 2006 after serving as interim CEO for six months. 

Moore has been in the industry for over 30 years. A former club owner, beginning with his first commercial facility in 1972 to developing a 20-club three state chain that he sold in 2004, Moore plays a prominent role in public policy and coalition building for the industry. Under his leadership, IHRSA is co-leader, along with the American Heart Association and the American Council on Exercise, of the Business and Industry Sector of the National Physical Activity Plan; is an Organization Affiliate of the plan; is an organizational member of the National Coalition to Promote Physical Activity (NCPPA); is a partner with HHS in promoting the 2008 Physical Activity Guidelines; is a Network Member of the Exercise is Medicine™ initiative; is on the advisory council of the Campaign to End Obesity; and is a member of the advisory board of the Partnership to Fight Chronic Disease.

He was awarded IHRSA’s President’s Award in 2000. Moore served as a police officer and deputy sheriff before leaving law enforcement for a full-time career in fitness. 


Anita Horne Lawlor

Anita Lawlor is the chief operating officer and chief financial officer for the International Health, Racquet and Sportsclub Association (IHRSA). Lawlor joined IHRSA in 1984 as its controller and in over 20 years of service, she has been involved in all aspects of its internal operations. Lawlor has lead finance, administration, technology, and staff development at IHRSA, nurturing the growth of the association from 1,000 to 7,500 members, $1 million to $9.1 million in revenue, and 8 to 65 employees.

Prior to her role with IHRSA, Lawlor worked for the Boston Five Cent Savings Bank. Lawlor served as the executive director of the Massachusetts Dance Ensemble, and was director, co-founder and teacher at the Village School of Classical Dance.

Lawlor received her Certificate in Finance and Administration from the American Society of Association Executives and received a Bachelor of Arts degree from Boston College where she was active in theater, dance and service.

Born in Quincy, Massachusetts, Lawlor lives near Boston, Massachusetts with her husband and two teenage sons. She remains active in community theater with her family.

Helen Durkin, J.D.

Helen Durkin, J.D. is the Executive Vice President of Public Policy for the International Health, Racquet and Sportsclub Association (IHRSA). Durkin joined IHRSA in 1989 and developed the health club industry's first government relations and legal service programs. She has served as the association's director of public policy since 1999.

Prior to her role with IHRSA, Durkin worked for the labor law firm of Kearns and Associates. In addition, Durkin worked in various government positions in Massachusetts and Washington.

Durkin received her law degree in 1986 from Washington College of Law, American University and received her undergraduate degree in political science at Holy Cross where she was a member of the varsity lacrosse team.
A native of Reading, Massachusetts. Durkin now lives near Boston, Massachusetts with her husband and two children.

Jay M. Ablondi

In 1990, Jay Ablondi began his career at IHRSA in the public policy division. In 2000, Ablondi took over the association’s publishing responsibilities where he spearheaded the redesign of Club Business International, IHRSA’s flagship magazine. Since then, CBI has become the undisputed leading monthly periodical in the industry and a significant revenue source for IHRSA. Ablondi leads IHRSA's research initiatives which produce industry benchmark publications, such as the annual IHRSA Global Report, Health Club Consumer Report, International Report and Industry Data Survey that provide key financial data on club performance and illustrate consumer trends for the industry. In 2005, Jay launched Get Active! IHRSA’s magazine for active health club members. Over his career, he has presented to industry groups in Argentina, Australia, Brazil, China, Europe, Russia and the United States. 

As Executive Vice President of Global Products, Ablondi oversees the research, publishing, education, convention, trade show, online media and information technology departments. Ablondi has a Bachelor of Arts in political science from the University of New Hampshire where he served as Student Body President.
