Women-owned wellness companies merge to form stronger brand

Allison Flatley, left, Brenda Loube, center, and Sheila Drohan. In late March, two women-owned, IHRSA-member companies confirmed, unequivocally, the dramatic and positive impact that women are having on American business that’s detailed in The 2013 State of Women-Owned Business Report, commissioned by American Express OPEN.

Corporate Fitness Works (CFW), based in St. Petersburg, Florida, announced that it had acquired L&T Health and Fitness (L&T), which has its headquarters in Falls Church, Virginia, for an undisclosed sum.

Both are leading providers of management and consulting services in the corporate health and fitness market. For 2013, CFW reported that it had revenues of $5.4 million and more than 200 employees, 150 of them full-timers. L&T had revenues of nearly $10 million, 372 employees, 141 of them full-timers, and, since 2000, had been ranked one of the “top 100 fitness companies” in the U.S.

Connect with both prospective and current members

Jason Reinhardt truly believes that you can’t judge a book by its cover when it comes to sales. One just never knows who is going to buy a membership and who is only looking for a free day at the gym.

Because of this Reinhardt - who is hosting IHRSA’s next webinar, “Increase Sales by Selling the Experience vs. the Price” on Thursday, Aug. 8, 2 to 3 p.m. EST – makes sure his staff gets to know the prospective member who comes in to learn more about his facility.

Read on to see what Reinhardt will talk about in the next IHRSA webinar.

Professors add to cachet of IHRSA Institute faculty

We tout the IHRSA Institute as “graduate-level education” because of the top-notch instruction, relevant networking and team building events, and a streamlined format. It’s where up-and-comers and those hoping to move up in the health and fitness industry come to learn.

So it stands to reason that there will be the look and feel of going to college.

Being held at the lush, green University of North Carolina, Chapel Hill, in a prototypical college town, the look is definitely there. The Institute faculty will also feature two UNC professors – in addition to the strong health and fitness industry leaders speaking – who will instill their knowledge and expertise to the close to 100 attendees, giving it an even more college feel.

The Institute runs Tuesday, Aug. 5, through Friday, Aug. 8, at the Rizzo Conference Center at the Kenan-Flagler Business School on the UNC campus.

For more on the professors, and their keynotes, read on.
