Parisi, 24 Hour Fitness combine for youth training program

24 Hour Fitness and Parisi Speed School will collaborate on a new training program intended for youth. The program is geared toward improving fundamental athletic skills, speed, quickness and self-esteem for ages 7-17. 

The partnership will begin at the new 24 Hour Fitness Super-Sport clubs in San Diego and Livermore, Calif., slated to open in late December. The two clubs will have custom outdoor training areas, and offer approximately 20 classes per week in addition to one-on-one training sessions with certified Parisi Speed School coaches.

Trends, points of interest for 2013

It’s November, so it isn’t too early for 2013 lists to come out. The American College of Sports Medicine thinks so, as it has released its top trends for the new year. 

Topping the list is resistance training using one’s own body weight. "Body weight exercises are a proven way to get and stay fit," said survey author Dr. Walt Thompson of Georgia State University. "In a time when many people are concerned with cutting expenses, body weight exercises are a great way to feel great and look toned without a big financial investment." 

Also on the list are childhood obesity, programs for older and adults and strength training.
