IHRSA/Fitness Brasil going strong at 15

Fitness Brasil President Waldyr Soares opens the 2013 show.When the IHRSA/Fitness Brasil Latin American Conference & Trade Show first opened its doors 15 years ago it was a much different event than the one Latin American and South America will see this week.

Then again, it’s not like the event that Fitness Brasil President Waldry Soares put on in 2000 was the norm.

Back then the industry it was about physical education – working your body to look the best it could. There was little about health prevention and quality of life. He went for it regardless of perception and the norm.

"Fifteen years ago, there were no academies in the knowledge that physical exercises were important for longevity. Everyone worked out, but only from the perspective of body worship,” said Soares, in Fitness Business magazine. “Over time, medical research and laboratory examinations made that society passed to understand physical activity as the cheapest remedy, which helped leverage our enterprise.” 

The event runs Aug. 28-30 at the Transamerica Expo Center in Sao Paulo, Brazil.

IHRSA will be unveiling three new publications at the event. INFOPACKS will be available in Portuguese and will focus on different areas vital for managers and owners.

“I always enjoy spending time with our partners at Fitness Brasil,” said Joe Moore, IHRSA president and CEO. "I’m excited to be introducing three new publications called INFOPACKS, which are written in Portuguese. They provide innovative concepts on management, planning, marketing, and sales.  The INFOPACKS are free for IHRSA members."

As always, the IHRSA/Fitness Brasil event is an opportunity for those in attendance to get a huge advantage over their competition with knowledge gained at the show. Close to 100 speakers will provide inspirational and practical information on a range of topics covering all aspects of the health club business: marketing, sales, technology, finance, management, retention, infrastructure, leadership, neuroscience, personal training, and much more. These will be presented by combining with the reality of what happens in the market and what still lies ahead. Most seminars are presented in Portuguese; some are presented English with simultaneous translation into Portuguese.

“The 15th IHRSA Fitness Brasil edition is causing a huge expectation in the fitness market in Brazil,” he said. “The World Cup made the economy slow down, and the political-economic scene, with the elections, is making everybody wonder how much business the event will generate. 

“We expect the 15th anniversary edition to help clarify the perspective of the future in terms of the big picture, attract and encourage new investors, and empower the club owners and managers to keep leading the market growth.”

Of course, the trade show will be the highlight for many. With music thumping and lights flashing from many of the close to 150 booths, the excitement is always palpable. It is an opportunity to check out what is new in the industry, as far as equipment, software, products and more.

Almeida has high hopes that the 15th Annual IHRSA/Fitness Brasil Latin American Conference & Trade Show to be a seminal event for those in the fitness industry.

“IHRSA/Fitness Brasil represents the key moment to the fitness market in South America every year,” said Almeida, who expects more than 10,000 to descend upon the Transamerica Expo Center. “Leaders from many countries come to São Paulo to get together, find new opportunities, update in terms of management and innovations in products and services that might change and help developing the industry in the next year.”
