mage courtesy of sattva / FreeDigitalPhotos.netIn order for the thousands of health and fitness professionals ready to descend on San Diego for IHRSA 2014 33rd Annual International Convention & Trade Show to not have that feeling that they forgot something – every traveler gets it – IHRSA is providing you with a checklist of sorts.

We will be playing the part of both IHRSA Concierge and spouse/significant other/parent, with lists for both sides - professional and personal (not too personal, of course).

Since you probably still have much to do, let’s get going.

Sometimes the most obvious things are the ones you forget. So, items like business cards, company promotional items, marketing material and booth give-aways can easily be overlooked.

With technology never more than arm’s length from anyone’s possession, it may seem like computers, tablets and phones are a no-brainer. And, most likely they are. However, power cords can easily be left at home.

Speaking of technology, downloading the IHRSA App is a must-do. There are so many features – networking, biographies on speakers, maps, etc. - that will make your four-day Convention & Trade Show much easier, it is almost as important as brining luggage.

One of the best features on the App is the ability to plan out your week with the schedule. You can go through each day and mark something you are interested in attending – be it an educational session, the trade show, networking event or general session speaker – and then it will show up on your schedule.

Now, on to tickets and confirmations. Sure, there are many to remember, but that is what your IHRSA Concierge is here for. First, before you even arrive you need to remember your plane ticket confirmation/boarding pass

Once you have that then you will have to make sure you have your IHRSA 2014 badges – for both the convention and trade show. Those will be available at the Registration Desk starting on Tuesday, March 11, and running throughout the event. Just show up with your confirmation bar code and you will be ready to go.

There are a couple other registrations necessary. This year the Opening Reception, sponsored by ABC Financial, requires a ticket for those who are not Convention attendees (so, Trade Show-only attendees do need one). It is $50 and can be purchased at IHRSA online registration or at the Registration Desk (Tuesday, 2 to 8 p.m.; Wednesday, 6:30 a.m. to 6 p.m.). The Opening Reception is Wednesday, March 12, 7:30 to 9:30 p.m., at the Marriott Marquis Marriott Hall. Registration is again necessary for the BASH for Augie’s Quest. Tickets for the Friday night gala , 6 to 11 p.m., can be obtained at augiesquest.org/bash or by calling 858-277-8206. This year’s entertainment is Smashmouth and the emcee is Jann Carl.

We covered the most important – technology. But since it is vital on both business and personal fronts, we will mention it again. Don’t forget your devices - computers, tablets, cell phones and even e-book readers (you won’t have the time or energy for that during IHRSA 2014, but they are good for the airport and on the plane) – and modes to charge them.

Really, what else do you need if you have technology? Just open your dresser drawers and closet at home and grab your favorite clothes and toss them in your luggage. I am sure I don’t have to remind those in cold weather climes that it will be in the 70s and 80s in Southern California.

For those who are looking to explore San Diego, IHRSA will have a story on Monday at ihrsa.org/home with things to do and see.
