This is no Jane Fonda workout

If you have listened to a commercial or pop music stations lately, you then have certainly realized that electronic dance music (EDM) is hotter than Miley Cyrus and Rhianna combined. Also known as trance or rave music, producers (that is what they are known as) like Deadmau5, Skrillex, Avicii and Zedd are household names for those in the know.

A former nightclub dancer in the UK has taken this music’s popularity and created Clubbercise, a workout that includes the music, a dark room and lasers – just like you would see at an EDM show.

And there is a charity aspect – money from the classes will be donated to Oxfam.

Clubbercise is expected to be rolled out in a couple chains in May.

‘Patch,’ GoodLife going strong

Anyone associated, even slightly, with the health and fitness industry has heard of David Patchell-Adams. The lanky, shaggy-haired founder GoodLife Fitness, known at “Patch” by new and old friends alike, is heavily involved in the industry and shows no sign of stopping, or as many would think as he turns 60, selling the company.

“I have no intention of selling out. Why? I can’t think of anything I’d rather do than this,” he said in a Toronto Globe and Mail story.  “Sixty, if you’re fit, is the new 25.”

The story goes into great detail of how he fell into the industry (rehabbing after  a motorcycle injury in the 1970s), how it became one of the biggest fitness chains in the world, and what he has planned for the future.

The Canadian company is one of the most popular nationwide – up there with Tim Hortons – with revenue upwards of $500 million annually.

Health center opens in grocery store

A YMCA in upstate New York has taken the fitness industry to a level it hasn’t been seen, in this country at least – opening a satellite location in a grocery center.

The Capital District YMCA in Albany, N.Y., opened the doors to the Healthy Living Center in Hannaford Supermarket in October and its popularity is skyrocketing.

But, health and fitness centers that aren’t in the typical bricks and mortar structures aren’t out of the norm – Companhia Athletica in Brazil has the majority of its clubs in malls, Celebrity Fitness has many clubs in upscale high-rise buildings, and a couple years ago a fitness chain opened truck stop locations, to name a few.

I have been hearing countless rumors over the past two weeks regarding Nautilus Fitness in what appears to be a downsizing in their commercial division? Which is completely opposite of what was stated in both their March 28, 2014 Press Release [http://investors.nautilusinc.com/releasedetail.cfm?ReleaseID=836327] and the Annual/Quarterly Statements? Are they in trouble by laying off commercial staff or just being fiscally and strategically motivated, moving in another direction?

Personally, I don't like rumors so I ask those of you whom might know first hand?
