In August, at the 13th Annual IHRSA/Fitness Brasil Latin America Conference and Trade Show in Sao Paulo, Brazil, IHRSA CEO Joe Moore made an announcement of a new publication: The IHRSA Latin American Report: Size & Scope of Key Health Club Markets.

Starting today, Feb. 5, it is available in English. Previously it was produced in Spanish and Portuguese. It is sponsored by Hoist Fitness and produced in collaboration with Mercado Fitness (Argentina) and supported by Fitness Brasil.

The first-of-its-kind research publication is the most comprehensive examination of key Latin American health club markets available anywhere. According to the new publication, the health club industry in Latin America is robust with the 15 Latin American markets analyzed in the report generating $5.6 billion in revenue from more than 46,000 clubs. Nearly 15 million Latin Americans are members of a health club. Brazil, alone, accounts for more than half of the health clubs in Latin America. Argentina has the highest penetration rate among all Latin American markets as 5.7% of Argentineans belong to a health club.

“I believe it is essential for industry entrepreneurs to have information that will help them to make good decisions,” said Guillermo Velez, editor and director of Mercado Fitness. “In addition, the worldwide industry needs to have a realistic scope of the opportunities available in our region.”

The 2012 IHRSA Latin American Report: Size & Scope of Key Health Club Markets (60 pages) is available at ihrsa.org/latin-american-report in print and PDF formats in Portuguese and Spanish. The English language edition is available in PDF format. The price for IHRSA members is $74.95, and for non-members it is $149.95.
