Getting to the gym just got easier

Along with the numerous people who will join the gym as part of their New Year’s resolution there are just as many who want to but won’t.

Why? Two words: gym intimidation.

Those who are inexperienced at the ellipticals, gym floor and group classes often have a hard time getting over it. One good way to overcome the fear is to go to the club with an experienced friend who will show you the ropes. Of course, most clubs will give you a tour and tutorial when you join.

Apps to keep you on track with resolutions

It is easy to make resolutions. We all know that. The key is keeping them.

Luckily we live in a technology that can assist us. The are many apps on the market that do just this, like keeping track of resolutions, workouts, reminders and accomplishments.

The iFit running app tracks your runs via GPS, voice prompts, a metronome to help you keep your pace, and plays music to keep your workouts interesting.

California chain sets itself up for the future

In just a little more than 30 years, In-Shape health clubs has grown to more than 60 locations. Now, with two new partners the California chain will be able to meet its ongoing expansion.

In-Shape has hooked up with Fremont Private Holdings and Pulse Equity Partners.

Recently In-Shape acquired a club in Salinas and announced plans to build another in Woodland.

App developer hopes to engage users to work out more

A Chicago start-up app developer is hoping its fitness app engages its customers, which in turn will keep them interested in working out.

MiGym’s app will allow the user to connect with those of similar interests and have the ability. The company hopes in the future to allow some of the bigger chains the ability to tracks its members ‘workout data.

The app will also take data accrued from other apps – like information from a run – can be uploaded into its app.
