F.I.T. is a great resource for strong fitness industry

Very few people would say the country, or the world for that matter, is out of the woods concerning the economy. Markets are still sagging, real estate is a mess, gas prices keep rising, and so on.

The recent IHRSA publication, The Future is Bright: U.S. Health Club Employment Outlook, shows that apparently the health club industry is immune to what is going on around it: personal trainers grew by 44% between 2001 and 2011; fitness and recreation workers numbers will increase by 21.1 % by 2020; and Fitness Middle East will hire up to 400 new employees.

One thing the positive numbers say is that the industry is strong, and that is good news for IHRSA associate members. More people working out and going to clubs means more equipment and services are needed.

Numbers in that area suggest the robust industry, too: Precor had a 22.8% jump in year-to-year sales in the second quarter of 2012; North American sales of Matrix equipment rose 26.5% for the first half of 2012; and a recent CBI magazine reader survey showed that 32.2% of responding clubs intend on purchasing fitness equipment in the next 7-12 months.

To help sift through the many options, IHRSA has compiled its commercial fitness catalog, F.I.T. It is the only comprehensive guide to fitness equipment, products and services, and is a great year-round resource for club operators.

Product categories are divided into bikes, climbers, ellipticals, technology, group exercise, educational resources and Pilates, to name a few. A great feature is comparison charts for 2013 products in bikes, climbers, ellipticals, treadmills and computer applications.

Also included in the 240-page publication are new product showcases and the IHRSA associate member directory.

F.I.T. is $4.95 for members, $14.95 for non-members. It is free to view the digital version or download the PDF. For more information and ordering, click here.
