Pros and cons of e-mail for member retention

There are many ways to keep members, well, members.

This quarter’s IHRSA Member Retention Report, in partnership with The Retention People, focuses on using e-mail to retain those who have been members.

One of the headings of volume 2 of the report says it all: “Get e-mail right and it improves retention. Get e-mail wrong and it can have a negative impact.”

To answer the question of whether e-mailing can indeed retain members, The Retention People conducted the largest ever controlled study in the health and fitness industry.

The report offers insight into the following concepts:

  • The best type of e-mail
  • The worst type of e-mail
  • E-mail marketing vs. face-to-face interactions
  • Results from the study.

The Member Retention Report also has additional IHRSA resources at the end, for those who are seeking more assistance.

For the results, you will need to download the entire report.

The report is free to IHRSA members here or can be purchased at the IHRSA online store.
