David Ross believes that a highly successful business needs organizational health. It is a pretty simple concept – the healthier a business is, with minimal confusion, politics and issues the smoother it will run and better the productivity. 

Ross, Principal Consultant, The Table Group, will be hosting a webinar on Thursday, June 14, 2 to 3:30 p.m. (EDT), titled, “The Four Disciplines of a Healthy Organization,” where he will show attendees how organization health is a business advantage, the characteristics of a cohesive team, what the key strategic question is for leadership teams, and how to develop a healthy culture.

We asked Ross a few questions that may help understand him more: 

Q. What is the best quality of a well-oiled team?

They never hold back their honest opinions on any significant issue or decision. 

Q. How important is working as a team in the health industry?

It really depends on your setting. If you are a group of individual practitioners sharing office space, it probably is not important at all. If you are an executive management team trying to run a business and your individual performances affect your collective profitability, then teamwork is crucial. 

Q. What do you feel is the best way, as a leader, to get through to a team member who is not working together?

Make sure the individual understands, 1) the business case for teamwork; 2)  the impact they are having on others; and 3) that there will be repercussions if the behavior does not change. On a great team, the individuals receive this kind of feedback when they need it not just from the leader but from their peers as well. 

Q. What is "organizational health" and why do you feel it is so important to success?

Organizational health really comes down to a healthy culture, i.e., a culture where there are very few politics or confusion among the players, where the morale and productivity are consistently high, and the "A" players stick around because they like where they work. It’s critical because without it, you simply don't leverage the talent or intelligence of your best people. 

Q. How important is a business vision statement to team success?

The vision statement is crucial It affects the choices that people make on a daily basis. To do this, the leadership of the organization must refer to it on a regular basis - its implications and repercussions  - to keep it relevant.
