With modern technology, gone are the days where you have to get in your car in order to do most anything.  That is no different in the fitness industry. 

Leaders in Fitness has recently launched its virtual learning environment where fitness professionals can get continuing education credits online, access to almost 30 hours of programs, including Pilates, and workshops on Barre, nutrition, anatomy, yoga and more. 

With a recent IHRSA report that said more than 6.5 million Americans are using personal trainers – a 91% increase from 1999 – adding to your resume and marketing yourself the best you can will only help in the end.

Beware of the SEP 15

We have all heard of the Freshman 15 – most freshmen in college gain 15 pounds.

At Search Engine People in Ajax, Ontario, Canada, they have the SEP 15. The company is all about getting together and camaraderie, with going out to lunch the norm.

When the CEO noticed the waistlines expanding he decided to put health and wellness practices in place. Now there is hockey and baseball games, running clubs and golfing events. At work there is ping pong, treadmills and even a hip hop dance class given by an employee.

24 Hour Fitness recognized for military efforts

In addition to being a great place for its members, 24 Hour Fitness is once again a great company for those in the military.

The California-based company was placed at number 74 in the 2013 Top 100 Military Friendly Employers by G.I. Jobs magazine. The publication noted its numerous military hires, retention programs and policies on National Guard and Reserve service as some of the key reasons for the business making the list a second consecutive year.

24 Hour Fitness supports current and former service personal with donations and free workouts during Memorial Day and Veterans Day, among other programs.

Educator bikes 1,000 miles to promote exercise-teaching program

The childhood obesity epidemic is a hot topic recently, not unlike the education of the country’s youth has been for the better part of the past 10 years.

A Kentucky educator recently completed a 10-state trek – through some of the states with the worst childhood obesity rates – promoting his educational program that combines physical activity and phonics for children in grades K-2.

Steve Stewart’s program, Sound Off! Movement Adventures program uses phonetics reinforcement activities with moderate exercise.

ACE certifications recognized in Europe

Fitness professionals with an American Council on Exercise Group Fitness Instructor or Personal Trainer certificates can now practice in European facilities.

ACE is now the accredited trainer by the European Health & Fitness Association and thus those who meet the ACE standards can now join the European Register of Exercise Professionals (EREPS).

Now, those certified by ACE for at least one year will attain full member status with EREPS, while those with recent certifications will be granted provisional status.
