Your Office is Killing You
A morning workout might not be enough to offset the negative effects of spending a day sitting in your office - if you sit in an office, that is. Sitting in one position without moving for a long period of time is a serious health risk, according to a study published in the European Heart Journal. It's not all bad news, though. Even such small acts as standing up can help.
Targeting Demographics
As our industry continues to grow, health club operators are realizing the value of targeting a specific demographic rather than marketing to everyone. Two of the fastest growing demographics are 55-plus baby boomers and children between the ages of 6 and 17. Although baby boomers are a fast growing market, the market is still largely untapped, according to Club Business International.
Reducing Health Care Costs
It's no secret exercise can improve health. However, very few doctors prescribe exercise at a health club. IHRSA board member David Patchell-Evans is doing his best to solve that problem in his Good Life Fitness clubs in Canada.
