Dale Dibble (left) leaves a legacy behind in the health club industry. It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of industry legend Dale Dibble on December 13. Dale believed that open sharing of information was the best way to ensure the success of the industry and of individual clubs. He led by example, literally opening his books to any IHRSA member that visited him at Cedardale, the club in Haverhill, Massachusetts, that he and his wife, Olive Mae, built with Ed and Zoe Veasey four decades ago. New club owners – and many veteran operators – considered a one-on-one meeting with Dale an essential part of their education about the business. He greeted all warmly and answered their questions, all with the aim of helping them succeed and building a great industry. Dale understood the words “success by association” – he lived by them. He so embodied that spirit that IHRSA named its annual Distinguished Service Award after him. He will be missed, but his legacy will live on through the hundreds, if not thousands, of club operators that he counseled.
