Get Active America! and #WhyGetActive

Our initiative to get more people moving.

Get Active America! started in 2004 and ran for 10 years as a health promotion program. Get Active America! has now evolved into an industry-wide initiative to promote physical activity and the vital role health clubs play in getting more people healthy, happy, and active. The Get Active America! program ran in May to coincide with National Physical Fitness and Sports Month, and in previous years we partnered with National Women’s Health Week and corporate sponsors. In 2011 IHRSA members helped the White House reach their goal to get one million people to achieve the President’s Active Lifestyle Award (PALA).

This May, Get Active America! will look a little different as the program evolves into a global brand - Get Active - encompassing all of our industry’s health promotion efforts.

Instead of asking our members to open their doors to the public for one week, we are asking you to join us in highlighting the good work you do in getting more people active in your community. We are using the hashtag #whygetactive to encourage consumers to share why they pursue an active, healthy lifestyle on social media.

  • Share – and encourage members to share – why you get active using the #WhyGetActive hashtag on Facebook, Instagram, and Twitter
