Former CEO of USPTA, Tim Heckler, dies of heart attack

The tennis community lost one of its family this week when Tim Heckler, former CEO of the United States Professional Tennis Association, passed away at the age of 71 after suffering a heart attack.

Heckler was the CEO for 30 years, retiring from the position in December. He helped the association grow from 2,400 members and a budget of $700,000 to more than 15,000 members and a $6.5 million budget.

He was inducted into the USPTA Hall of Fame in 2000 and was given the International Tennis Hall of Fame's Merit Award in 2002. He played in Winbledon in 1959 and 1961 and the US Open in 1960.
