Study shows exercise lowers prostate cancer deaths

There are so many benefits to exercise it is amazing everyone isn't doing it.
Studies have shown that regular exercise can help cut the risk of heart disease, diabetes and cancer, as well as stimulating your brain and relieving stress.

A study published in the Journal of Clinical Oncology shows that exercise may lower the risk of death for those with prostate cancer.

Data from 2,705 men who participated in the study shows that over an 18-year period a lower percentage of men died, if they exercised. Those who did at least 90 minutes of exercise a week had a 46% lower death rate.

Study: link between technology and obesity

A new study shows that for every 10 percent increase in what a country spends on information and communications technology, there is a 1 percent rise in obesity rates.

The study, by the non-profit Milken Institute, shows that not only do computers, video games and TVs keep people from exercising but they also affect the way people eat, thus adding to the obesity epidemic in the United States.

The report does have a positive side: it notes that many companies have instituted wellness programs and are enticing workers to use bicycles.

ROI for wellness programs is positive

Wellness programs, in upper management's eyes, is a slippery slope. On one hand, it is difficult to ignore helping employees getting in better shape; on the other hand, of course, is the bottom line.

The American Journal of Health Promotion’s recent analysis found that employers with onsite health promotion programs see on average:

  • a 27% reduction in sick leave absenteeism;
  • 26% reduction in health costs;
  • 32% decrease in workers’ compensation and disability claims.

Those are numbers that are hard to ignore.
