24 Hour Fitness poll shows Olympics inspires workouts

24 Hour Fitness suggests, official sponsor of the United States Olympic Committee (USOC) and Official Fitness Center Sponsor of the U.S. Olympic and Paralympic Teams, polled more than 400 of its members to learn their opinion toward and the effects of the Olympic Games on members' fitness lifestyles.

  • 53% live a healthier lifestyle
  • 63% work out more frequently

Which Olympics sport is the best, fitness-wise?

Being in the fitness industry, we are always looking at people and wondering what sort of shape they are in. Same is true with professional and world-class athletes. We often wonder what it takes for them to get to where they are, and what is the best sport, fitness-wise.

We posed the question, What Summer Olympics event do you feel is the best, fitness-wise. Why?, to a few members.

Check out their answers, and be sure to vote for yours on the poll.

What is the best Summer Olympics event, fitness-wise?

So we have been looking, with no luck, for member clubs that are using the Olympics as a springboard (like that connection?) for programs, like themed weeks for kids, workouts or goals related to the Games, social events at the club, etc.
So, let's try this: If an IHRSA member club would like to be in the story, email with the answer to this question, along with your name, club and position at the club: What do you think is the best Summer Olympics event, fitness-wise. Why? Feel free to list a couple events and explain how the event is beneficial - whether it is training for it or actually competing in it.
Deadline is Wednesday, July 18, 1 p.m.

Olympics themes at your club

Do you have any special plans for your club for the upcoming Olympic Games in London?

The 2012 Summer Olympics are less than a month away. With the natural connection between our industry and the largest, most spectacular sporting occasion in the world, it makes sense if your club has a theme or events planned. They can be kids events, goals relating to the Games, or maybe just social get-togethers to watch at the club.

We are doing a story to let fellow IHRSA members know what is going on, maybe even giving them some ideas. There is still time.

If you would like to be interviewed, e-mail Interviews - 15 minutes at the most - will need to be conductuted by end of the day on Tueday, July 10.

Olympics-inspired workouts, apps and more in Fitness Industry column

This Week in the Fitness Industry has plenty to offer.

The American Council on Exercise has created four week-long exercise programs inspired by the upcoming London games. Former and current Olympians pitched in.

A Massachusetts fitness industry consulting firm has increased its client base three-fold.

Of course, there are more apps available to help track your workouts and inspire you to get off the couch.

And, much more. Click here to see.
