IHRSA Europe Council member Doug Miller and Ireland Active social media manager in the IHRSA booth. The Leisure Industry Week show at the NEC in Birmingham, England, was smaller than previous years, but there was lots of interesting things to see and experience.

A number of sponsors for IHRSA´s European Congress in Amsterdam were present, including Gartner, Keiser, MyZone, ICE, Matrix, Precor, Life Fitness, Milon, EGym, Piloxing and Virtuagym.

IHRSA had its own booth again, and between IHRSA Europe Council member Doug Miller and IHRSA´s European Director Hans Muench more than 100 contacts were made.

Muench spoke twice in the LIW theatre on Global Trends, and What´s Hot Internationally and Why. E-mail him at for a link to the presentation summary.

LIW auctioned off a registration to the just-completed European Congress in Amsterdam. The winner was Gregory Bradley of Belfast, Northern Ireland.

Ireland Active's three-year plan announced

Earlier this month we posted in this space about the annual ILAM conference in Cork, Ireland.

In addition to the big news of the rebranding to Ireland Active it was also reported that the three-year strategic plan was unveiled. We didn't have access to it then, but here it is now.

ILAM announces name change at annual event

Ireland Active board members, from left, Susan Brady, President Barry Walsh and Iain Foulger. The annual ILAM conference had special significance this year with the rebranding of the organization to Ireland Active. The change was a well-kept secret until the day of the event, and the new website was activated as the opening address announced the new name.

"This is a major step forward for the organization," said President Barry Walsh.

Participation from Health agency staff and an address at the evening awards presentation by an elected official was a sign of recognition on a broad front. The three-year strategic plan was presented at the event.

The trade show/sponsor showcase featured about 20 booths, including Precor, Life Fitness, Cybex, FreeMotion, Gladstone and Legend Software.

The conference was held in Cork, Ireland, on Oct. 3.
