IHRSA Attends London Parliament Fitness Center Opening

The Right Hounorable John Bercow, center, Speaker of the House, tests an indoor cycling bike.IHRSA European Council member David Minton, director of The Leisure Database Company, was on hand for the recent re-opening of a fitness center at the London House of Commons for members of London Parliament and their staff.

The more than 7,000 government employees can enjoy strength and cardiovascular equipment, group exercise, indoor cycling, reflexology and a steam room.

IHRSA Director of Europe Hans Muench was also at the ribbon cutting.



Muench Visits Qualicert in Switzerland

Qualicert certifies clubs in Switzerland. Insurance companies reimburse customers insured through them when they work out in the participating facilities.

Muench Relaxes Before European Congress Begins Today

He, Theo Hendriks, Leila Timergaleeva and Timergaleeva's mother enjoyed a great view, along with drinks and food, at the restaurant that overlooks one of the many beautiful waterways in Amsterdam.

Hendriks is CEO of The Sports Leisure Group and is the local host partner on behalf of the IHRSA Europe Council. He ensure attendees get the local perspective on what to see and do in Amsterdam. Timergaleeva is IHRSA´s ambassador for Russia and is responsible for the large Russian contingent at IHRSA events.

European Congress begins today and runs through Sunday. More than 500 industry professionals are expected to embark on the Beurs van Berlage, the site of the event.

Museums and canals highlight European Congress host city

If you are planning on attending the 14th Annual IHRSA European Congress then you really are going to get it all.

Not only will you enjoy the best health and fitness industry event in Europe, but this year’s host city, Amsterdam, is second-to-none in what if offers the tourist.

From the picturesque canals to world-class museums to spectacular food and drink, Netherlands’ capital and most populous city is a huge bonus for European Congress attendees.

“Amsterdam has always been a open, tolerant and multicultural city. Everybody is welcome and greeted with a warm smile and good food and drinks,” said Hans Muench, IHRSA director of Europe. “English is widely spoken everywhere, and the Dutch have a great sense of humor. IHRSA, media partner meet in Helsinki

Hans Muench, left, and Ari Katijisto.Globe-trotter and Director of IHRSA Europe Hans Muench was in Helsinki, Finland, for a brief time in between flights when IHRSA Media Partner Ari Katijisto joined him for lunch.

A big supporter of IHRSA in Finland, Katijisto will be at the European Congress in Amsterdam from Oct. 16-19 with 15 other Finns.

"Ari is a great example of the IHRSA family", said Muench. "He is generous, knowledgable and provides a valuable value added service to clubs in Finland, and to IHRSA."

DSSV hits 30-year mark

Birgit Schwarze, president of DSSV, addresses the guests during the 30th anniversary celebration.More than 200 invited guests celebrated the 30th anniversary of DSSV at the Lindtner Hotel in Hamburg-Harburg, Germany.

Moderated in late night talk show-style by Ferdinand Linzenich, whose family started their chain of fitness centers in the 1980s, Refit Kamberovic and Birgit Schwarze looked back at milestones in the German Sportstudio Association´s past.

Industry veterans Albert Busek (Sport Revue, IFBB), Hubert Horn (Body Media), Manfred Kartheuser(Juka Doyo) and Johannes Marx (BSA/DHFPG) were all in attendance. International attendees included Swiss Rene Stoss (Inko), Paul Eigenmann (Qualicert) and Jean Pierre Schupp, and Bofan Branjovic of Croatia.


Don't miss out on IHRSA's European Congress

The IHRSA European Congress is without a doubt an international event. Last year the more than 500 attendees represented 36 countries. Spain, the host country, led the way with 138 registered participants; Russia (87) and France (55) rounded out the top three.

This year there is a comparable schedule of educational sessions and speakers, another impressive lineup of trade show booths, and great networking events and club tours.

“The seminars and networking opportunities are designed to spark conversation among delegates and engage them in new ways of thinking about the future of their business,” said Hans Muench, IHRSA Europe director.

The event is Oct. 16-19 at the Beurs van Berlage in Amsterdam, The Netherlands.

IHRSA helping nuture rapid industry development in the Gulf

The second IHRSA mini-conference in Dubai and a World Calisthenics Organization workshop were both held at Warehouse Gym April 24-26.

Participants from UAE, Kuwait, Lebanon, Bahrain, Canada, Germany, USA and New Zealand were treated to high-caliber education in a unique location.

"The amazing potential and growth opportunities in the Gulf region to create new opportunities for a blossoming fitness community impressed me beyond words," said Brendan Cosso, president and CEO of WCO, who led the certification workshop. 

Cosso´s presentation, organized by partner Multi-Works, took attendees through an amazing historical picture journey spanning 1,500 years, was particularly well received.

FIBO sees huge numbers; IHRSA talks European Congress

A group from Finland visit the IHRSA booth at FIBO 2014.FIBO, the international trade show for fitness, wellness and health, was held earlier this month in Cologne, Germany, with almost 100,000 visitors.

More than 97,000 visitors came out to see more than 700 exhibitors during the four-day event. The final two days were sold out.

IHRSA again had a booth at the show, and more than 200 contacts were made. A meeting of the Europe Council took place with the focus on strategic issues and logistics relating to IHRSA´s upcoming European Congress in Amsterdam Oct. 16-19.
