Gold's Gym to add 50 locations in Australia

Gold’s Gym International, Inc., based in Irving, Texas, has announced that it plans to open a minimum of 50 state-of-the-art clubs in Australia over the next 10 years—its largest development agreement, to date, outside of the U.S.

The deal, signed in late 2013, encompasses two preexisting Gold’s Gyms in Fyshwick and Gungahlin, the foundation on which the company will build its brand, which is already well known in the country.

“We’re excited to bring to the Australian market the high caliber of service and commitment Gold’s Gym is known for both stateside and across the world—from our best-in- class trainers to our top-of-the-line equipment and facilities,” said Tim Hicks, the company’s senior vice president for franchising and international.

“With a brand as synonymous with fitness as Gold’s Gym, we’re very confident that we’ll be hugely successful,” says Leigh Taylforth, the company’s master franchisee for Australia.

Established in Venice, Calif., in 1965, Gold’s Gym has more than 650 locations in 37 states and 28 countries, and serves nearly three million members worldwide.

Considerable growth for Gold's Gym

Expansion nationally and internationally, both on the corporate and franchise side, has helped Gold's Gym show 2014 first quarter growth.

The chain currently boasts more than 675 locations, with many more planned over the next 12-18 months.

“The first quarter of 2014 was prolific, and we are proud of our results to date and our employees and franchisees that helped to make it happen,” said Aaron Watkins, president of Gold's Gym, in a press release. “We are well positioned to continue our track record of smart, aggressive growth and fully expect to enter 2015, the year of our 50th anniversary, with more than 750 gyms in 30 countries.”

Arnold goes undercover at Gold's Gym for after-school programs awareness

Arnold Schwarzenegger dipped back into the acting gig recently when he pretended to be a personal fitness director and regional manager at a Venice, Calif., Gold's Gym.

He wasn't doing it for awards, recognition or pay. He is trying to raise awareness and money for the After-School All-Stars Charity, which provides after-school programs.

Some figured him out, others not-so-much as they went along with some of his zany comments and requests.

Watkins named president of Gold's Gym

Following the shake-up in July that saw the president and chief operating officer relieved of their positions, Gold's Gym has announced that Aaron Watkins will become the new president.

Watkins took over as interim president in July, and following an extensive search, the interim tag was taken off his title.

Watkins was previously the chief financial officer and when he started at Gold's in 2006 he was vice president controller.

Gold’s Gym has more than 675 locations in 38 states and 28 countries.

How are you different from the competition?

ddpavumba image at FreeDigitalPhotos.neBeing different can end with either a good or bad result.

It really depends on who is judging you and how they feel about someone or something that isn’t the norm.

It may not work during a job interview or when meeting your significant other’s parents, but in business an original concept, or even as simple as one that works for the consumer but isn’t easily accessible elsewhere, can be gold.

At the NEHRSA/IHRSA Fall Conference & Trade Show earlier this month one of the first three concurrent sessions brought 50 years of fitness industry experience together for the subject of how to set your club apart from neighboring clubs.
