700 Anytime Fitness Gyms to Host Free Outdoor Workouts
Hundreds of Anytime Fitness gyms will host free outdoor exercise events nationwide, according to a release. The “May Free Workouts” began in 2015 as a grassroots effort by a few Anytime Fitness gyms, and has grown into a nationwide campaign to promote physical activity. About 700 facilities are expected to participate, hosting activites such as yoga in the park, Zumba classes, kickboxing lessons, and tug-of-war competitions. “We believe a healthy lifestyle is achievable for anyone,” said Chuck Runyon, co-founder & CEO of Anytime Fitness. “May Free Workouts are designed to encourage community members to get up and move in an active, motivating atmosphere. Employee Benefits: How Does Your Health Club Compare to the Competition?

Could you use some guidance when it comes to compensating your health club’s employees? If so, you’re not alone. The IHRSA Health Club Employee Compensation & Benefits Report, published in March 2017, can help you compare your club to the competition in terms of hourly pay, annual salaries, and employee benefits.

The report is based on survey data provided by leading IHRSA member health clubs in the U.S. and Canada, and provides compensation information for senior management/corporate staff, salaried club-level employees, and hourly club-level employees. Salary information for select job titles is provided by geographical region, company type, and size in number of units and total annual sales. The report also provides a brief macroeconomic outlook on compensation and unemployment.

How Clean Energy is Revitalizing Health Clubs—and Attracting Millennials

This is an IHRSA featured post, brought to you by SportsArt.

No industry is removed from the zeitgeist. Trends rooted in activism and social consciousness can have far reaching effects on businesses whether they like it or not. Ask a clothier about his fur sales, for instance.

Rarely is there a seamless way to combine a social or political cause with a business plan that doesn’t create divisions. Taking a stand can be exemplary but also exclusionary. Personal beliefs aside, why would a business owner take the chance?

Advocacy, public policy, government relations, public affairs, etcetera etcetera etcetera… A rose is a rose is a rose. No matter what you call IHRSA’s efforts to Grow, Promote and Protect clubs across the country, these efforts are rarely going to sound as exciting to most gym operators as newfangled equipment, retention rates, wearables, virtual fitness, yoga pants, even flooring options, and operating systems.

I know what you're thinking. I'm a gym owner, why do I need to care about public policy or advocacy? Spoiler alert—you already care about it, you just may not know it.

Exercise enthusiasts say the darndest things…

There are many legitimate reasons to pursue a physically active lifestyle—better mood, lower risk of health problems, and improved physical stamina, just to name a few. But lets face it—sometimes people need to focus on a less-healthful goal to motivate themselves to hit the gym. And those goals can be pretty funny.

Since 2014, IHRSA has asked the fitness industry, legislators, legislative aides, and consumers to share why they pursue a physically active lifestyle as part of our #WhyGetActive campaign. Some people took this question more seriously than others.

Here are the five funniest reasons we found that motivated people to get active.
