Future-proof Your Health Club with Individualized Service, Relevance

Rasmus Ingerslev, founder and executive vice chairman of Wexer Virtual in Denmark, laid out his vision of the future of fitness in his Monday, March 21 IHRSA 2016 session, “Future-Proofing Your Club: Innovation of Technology and Your Business.”

The IHRSA board member said he believes we’ll see the following trends:

  • Service will be more individualized (face-to-face and digitally)
  • Fitness will be more social (again)
  • Gyms must be relevant outside their four walls, 24 hours a day

Ingerslev also said technology will intensify and change the competition in all aspects of business, including:

  • Sales and marketing
  • Service/product/perceived value
  • Cost
  • Change/new business models

To meet the future of the health club industry head on, Ingerslev suggested health club operators go through their customer journey critically, evaluate where and how they should use technology, focus on relevance and customer experience (24 hours-a-day in and outside the gym), test small and fast (including members and potential members), and use existing solutions, either fully or partly.
