How Julie Main's Legacy Inspired the IHRSA Woman Leader Award

IHRSA offers the Woman Leader Award in honor of Julie Main, a woman whose tenacious drive and unbreakable spirit was an inspiration to all who knew her.

Julie Main was the co-owner and president of the West Coast Athletic Clubs in California, a former board member, and past president of IHRSA.

After being diagnosed with breast cancer in 1993, Julie remained committed to making physical activity a priority and learned first-hand the powerful role that exercise plays in cancer treatment and rehabilitation. As a result, Julie co-created a community organization, the Cancer Well-fit Program, which enables cancer patients to feel better about themselves and cope with cancer through exercise.

The Woman Leader Award was established to recognize women who exemplify what Julie stood for—professionalism, excellence, courage, perseverance, and tireless contribution to the industry and community.

The deadline to apply for the 2017 Woman Leader Award in honor of Julie Main is November 11, 2016. The recipient will receive a scholarship to attend IHRSA 2017, and will be honored at the event during a presentation that includes a video highlighting their achievements.
