Getting Enough Sleep Essential to Success

Arianna Huffington’s journey into well-being reached a crescendo 8 years ago when she collapsed from exhaustion. That started her on the journey to living a better life and led her to write her 14th book “Thrive: The Third Metric to Redefining Success and Creating a Life of Well-Being, Wisdom and Wonder.”

Huffington asserts that well-being is essential to thriving, which she defines as true success. “We take better care of our cell phones than we do of ourselves,” she said.

“Taking care of ourselves begins with sleep. There is something about our culture that treats sleep deprivation like a badge of honor.” She noted that sleep and performance are connected; the cheetah is the fastest animal on earth and it gets 18 hours of sleep a day.

Huffington exhorted attendees to make it a goal to get more sleep and to start by getting 30 more minutes per day.

Huffington's presentation was sponsored by SPRI.
