IHRSA releases Mid-Session State Legislative Report

Whether it’s a proposal to tax your memberships, a mandate that your facility house an AED, new training or certification requirements for your staff, or the creation of a financial incentive for new members to join your club, chances are that lawmakers in your state are always at least thinking about enacting a new policy that could affect how you do business.

With that in mind, IHRSA’s advocacy team is always working to stay on top of the legislation that could impact your health club. Each December, prior to the start of legislative session across the country, we research legislative trends and work to identify the states in which a legislative threat has emerged and where there may be an opportunity to advance legislation that could benefit health clubs’ bottom-lines.

From the New Year to the early days of summer - traditionally when state legislatures are most active - IHRSA works to track every piece of legislation introduced in the states, to determine its impact on our industry.

In the summer, when legislators ditch bills and laws for beaches and lakes, we take a step back to assess the national trends and the legislative climates of the individual states that IHRSA, its lobbying team and our members need to be aware of. This assessment culminates in our new IHRSA’s Mid-Session State Legislative Report, a valuable resource in helping IHRSA members fully understand the legal and regulatory environment in which you operate.  The report recaps the relevant legislative activity so far this year and a provides a snapshot of where IHRSA currently stands in our efforts to grow, protect and promote the fitness industry in each of the 50 states.

We encourage all IHRSA members to download the report, read about the issues that could impact the industry across the country and in your state, and to reach out to IHRSA’s advocacy team with any questions or to learn how you can get involved in fighting for your business.
