Be part of Compensation & Benefits Survey; get free report

Surveys, and the subsequent reports that are produced from the information gathered, are only as good as the number of participants and the information provided by participants.

IHRSA produces numerous reports as a service to our members and non-members. Having the most up-to-date information is imperative for clubs and its owners and managers in order to make informative decisions.

IHRSA is currently working on the IHRSA Employee Compensation & Benefits Survey. The biennial publication has information, metrics, charts and more on every conceivable area that will interest those in the health and fitness industry – salaries, benefits, vacation, health insurance and certification requirements, to name a few. And it is broken down into 60 different job titles and by geographical region, company type, company size and how much money the company takes in.

"The IHRSA Employee Compensation & Benefits Survey gathers compensation data beyond pay for personal trainers, group exercise instructors, and other fitness professionals," said Melissa Rodriguez, IHRSA's senior Research manager. "Compensation and benefits information is measured for salaried corporate and club-level employees, as well as hourly-level support staff, all of which play an important role in the strategic and day-to-day operations of a health club company."

IHRSA is offering a free report ($400 value) to any member who fills out the survey by Oct. 3.

This year's survey will gather whether club operators fill hourly-level job positions via staff, contract, or a combination of both. Also new are salaried and hourly-club level data for the following job titles:

  • Operations manager
  • Martial Arts Instructor
  • Group Cycling Instructor
  • Barre Instructor
  • Dietitian
  • Health & Wellness Coach
  • Social Media Specialist

"Earlier this year, U.S. News & World Report singled out several industry-related jobs, including personal trainers and group exercise instructors, among the best occupations in the U.S. with excellent prospects for growth," said Jay Ablondi, IHRSA's executive vice president of Global Products. "IHRSA's Employee Compensation & Benefits Survey is designed to help club operators meet the demand for health and fitness services by empowering managers with compensation data to ensure they are providing staff with fair and competitive pay."

Health club operators can participate in the survey by visiting ihrsa.org/research. Participants will receive a free PDF of The 2015 IHRSA Employee Compensation & Benefits Report. The deadline for participating has been extended to Oct. 24.

Club company information will be held in strict confidence by Industry Insights, IHRSA's partner on this project. Only aggregated results will be reported.

The 2013 IHRSA Employee Compensation & Benefits Report is available at ihrsa.org/compensation-report for $199.95 (IHRSA members) or $399.95 (non-members).
