EU looking for sports expert group observers

On May 21, the EU approved the second EU Work Plan for Sport (2014-2017). The Member States agreed to set up five expert groups that cover the issues of match-fixing; good governance; the economic dimension; human resources development in sport; and health- enhancing physical activity (HEPA).

In the first half of 2015, the expert group on HEPA will prepare recommendations to encourage physical education in schools, including motor skills in early childhood, and create valuable interactions with the sport sector, local authorities and the private sector. In the second half of 2016, they are scheduled to coordinate the implementation of the Council recommendation on HEPA.

The members of the expert groups will be appointed by the Member States and the expert groups themselves can also invite observers from the sport movement. The Commission therefore invited interested organzations to express their interest in joining an expert group as observers by sending an e-mail to EAC-UNITE- The expert group will eventually make the final decision on whom becomes an observer and the Commission will communicate this to the organizations concerned.
