$1 million renovation for Genesis Health Club

The indoor pool at the Lawrence, Kans., location. The Genesis Health Clubs’ Lawrence North location, in Lawrence, Kans., is about to undergo a major $1 million renovation that will provide the entire facility with a new look and new upscale appointments.

Genesis took over the business, formerly the Lawrence Athletic Club, in December 2012, and has been planning the improvements ever since. “The layout of the building made it hard for us to get the drawings just right,” explains Joe Oxler, Genesis’ regional club director. “The club is doing very well, but it isn’t a Genesis project yet. The classes and services are, but the overall look of the facility isn’t there yet.”

Among the planned changes are new locker rooms twice the size of the old ones, featuring granite countertops, high-end shower stalls, and other amenities; enlarged cardio, weight, and childcare areas; a new shake bar and massage therapy area; and the removal of some interior walls to open up the club’s space.

Genesis Health Clubs, based in Wichita, are owned by Rodney Steven II. There are 12 locations in Kansas and one in Missouri.
