Fitness Industry Meets with Congress

IHRSA and NCPPA Associates tell Congress: "Don't let gridlock hurt efforts to address the physical inactivity crisis"!

IHRSA was one of six organizations that held meetings last month with 15 different congressional offices to remind members of Congress of the staggering costs the country faces due to inactivity. The meetings, organized by the National Coalition for Promoting Physical Activity, were the second lobbying day held by NCPPA this year. IHRSA of course represented the interest of clubs during both events.

"With midterm elections coming in November, nobody expects much action from Congress," said Tom Richards, IHRSA's senior legislative counsel and NCPPA, president-elect. "However, the meetings we have now help keep the issue on Congress’ radar and lay the ground work for future action."

Outreach like this is supported by contributions from members of the Industry Leadership Council (ILC) to Grow, Protect and Promote the industry.

IHRSA and IHRSA members are dedicated to making the world healthier through regular exercise and activity promotion. You can share how physical activity makes a difference in your life (and your members' lives) at WhyGetActive.org. Perhaps a member of Congress will be influenced by your #WhyGetActive motivation...
