Polessky to receive first Canadian leadership award

Henry Polessky, the fitness icon who passed away in January, has been named as the inaugural recipient of the Canadian Fitness Leadership Award, given by the Fitness Industry Council of Canada.

The award will be presented posthumously during the Canadian Forum on Thursday, March 13, 1:30 p.m., at IHRSA 2014 33rd Annual International Convention & Trade Show. His contribution to the industry will also be recognized during the Canadian VIP Reception at 6 p.m. the same day.

Polessky was involved in the fitness industry for six decades, most notably launching Fitness World in 1978 and expanding to 13 locations throughout British Columbia. He was also very active in FIC of Canada.

“Henry was one of the industry's all-around good guys," said Joe Moore, IHRSA president and CEO. "The news of his passing was difficult for the IHRSA staff, who have wonderful memories of his humor and thoughtfulness.”
