Netpulse Nets Major Funding

Netpulse, based in San Francisco, a leading digital platform for the fitness industry, has secured $18.6 million in new funding from a round led by Nokia Growth Partners (NGP), with participation from August Capital, Javelin Venture Partners, DFJ Frontier, and Docomo Capital.

John Gardner, of NGP, will join the Netpulse board.

The company plans to use the funds to further accelerate its rapid growth, advance the development of its product platform, and introduce new integrations and services both for club operators and members.

The Netpulse platform links clubs to a variety of new technologies, including Internet-connected, touchscreen cardio equipment, member fitness tracking devices, sensors, and apps. It integrates these new technologies with club management systems and in-club digital experiences to increase engagement, measurement, and the monetization of members’ fitness activities, both inside and outside of the club.

“Netpulse technology has created an opportunity for clubs to engage with their members in ways previously not possible,” says Bryan Arp, Netpulse’s cofounder and CEO. “Clubs can now provide new services to increase engagement and generate new sources of revenue by reaching the members via mobile and connected products.”

“The megatrends of connected devices and big data are converging, providing new business opportunities and consumer insights,” observes Gardner, the managing partner at NGP. “The Netpulse platform is uniquely positioned at the center of this convergence to capture data and deliver club-branded consumer experiences across the entire member journey.”

Currently, Netpulse has partnerships with eight of the top nine commercial manufacturers, which, taken together, produce some 83% of the fitness equipment in clubs. The company also partners with leading club management software systems, fitness app and device makers, and industry service providers. Netpulse-enabled products and mobile applications can be found in thousands of clubs in over 30 countries, including those of such leading brands as Equinox, Crunch Fitness, Gold’s Gym, and Retro Fitness, as well as top universities, corporate fitness centers, and YMCAs.
