Celebrity Fitness VP Passes Away

CBI magazine and IHRSA mourns the death of Mike Duane Anderson, the senior vice president of Celebrity Fitness, a rapidly growing club chain based in Jakarta, Indonesia.

Anderson, along with John Franklin and John “JJ” Sweeney, founded Celebrity Fitness 10 years ago, opening the company’s first facility at the EX Mall in Jakarta. Anderson subsequently went on to play a major role in developing the business, which has since opened more than 50 clubs in Indonesia, Malaysia, India, and Singapore, that now serve more than 170,000 members.

Anderson died in mid-September. He was 56 years old.

“A former award-winning American Ironman and fitness surfing fanatic, Mike led Celebrity Fitness’ sales-revenue teams with energy, enthusiasm, and a big, warm-hearted, caring personality,” recalls Martin Darby, the CEO of Celebrity Fitness. “Mike remained passionate, every day of every month, about competing, winning, and driving sales performance to increasingly new records and highs. He was always keen to nurture and support his team, ensuring that no one was left behind. Mike will be hugely missed by all of us in the Celebrity family.

“Our thoughts and prayers are very much at this sad time with Mike’s wife, Shelia, his two sons, Hayden and Travis, and his family in America and here in Indonesia.”

I worked with Mike 10 something years ago, he was my mentor of my sales career. I still remembered that he said " Make it happen" every meeting. He was a funny, energetic person and always stay in position. Pray to Mike and his family and God comfort them with Love.
