IHRSA continues to keep an eye out for harmful bills

IHRSA has issued a couple more mid-session reports that outlines the work we are doing to protect the interests of the health club industry in those states.

In Michigan, IHRSA is keeping an eye on the possibility of a bill in 2014 to tax health clubs and its services. IHRSA and its lobbyist in Lansing fought against the introduction of a bill in 2013. There had been a bill in recent years so IHRSA was on high alert.

Across Lake Michigan in Wisconsin, IHRSA is supporting Senate Bill 73 which would create tax credits for businesses that implement wellness programs.

IHRSA defends the industry by preventing states from imposing harmful restrictions on membership contracts, restricting access to qualified personal trainers and taxing club dues and services.

IHRSA also works to promote clubs by supporting legislation that would create incentives for more people to become physically active and join their local health club.
