Inaugural United Arab Emirates event generates excitement in region

Among those at the first United Arab Emirates event were, from left, Kevin Texeira, owner of host Warehouse Gym; Yves Preissler, of Multi Works, IHRSA partner; Hans Muench, director, IHRSA Europe; and Tarryn Hoffman of Multi Works.IHRSA conducted its first event in the United Arab Emirates, one of the fastest growing areas for health and fitness in the world. IHRSA’s partner in the area, Multi Works, organized the event, which was held six-month-old at Warehouse Gym.

"This meeting is an essential tool to grow the health, leisure and wellbeing industry in the region, as well as raise awareness and focus towards the Gulf as a trend-setter, but also a region with high health related problems., said Multi Works´ Yves Presisler. “It’s always to soon to quit - therefore we will continue to raise the bar with IHRSA as our partner."

There were networking events and a talk by Technogym’s Ruggero Ottogalli, who discussed the three phases of the market development in the region: clubs were mostly in hotels until around 2005; Fitness First and Landmark leads the explosive growth and development; now focusing on more education and quality focus (with regulations).

Talise Fitness, located in the famous Al Jumeirah Hotel in Dubai, has offered to host the next event. Here, in front of the high altitude training room, is Tarryn Hoffmann, of IHRSA partner Multi Works, and Matthew Graham, center, club manager, with Hans Muench.IHRSA membership by clubs in the region is growing rapidly, said IHRSA Europe Director Hans Muench.

There are plans to hold quarterly meetings in the region.
