Unhealthy lifestyle could lead to loneliness

The Office of National Statistics in England said that unhealthy older individuals are more likely to be lonely.

The study shows that almost 3 in every 5 people who were in poor health claimed to be lonely "sometimes" or "often". Only 1 in 5 in "excellent" health said they ever felt lonely.

The figures are from the most recent data from the ONS English Longitudinal Study of Ageing. More than 8,000 older people were interviewed since 2002.
